Dr. Jelester A. Sanders
Dr. Jelester A. Sanders was born on February 7, 1942 in Chester, SC to the late Wylie A. Sanders and late Annie Sanders. Pastor Sanders preached his initial message and was licensed to preach the gospel on March 31, 1974 at the Greater Galilee Baptist Church, Charlotte, NC under the pastorate of the late Dr. Warren McKissick. He was ordained in 1975 by the Mt. Peace Missionary Baptist Association, Charlotte, NC. Pastor Sanders accepted the call to pastor the Old Wilson Baptist Church, Chester, SC in February, 1975 and remained there for seven years. He then accepted the call to pastor the New High Springs Baptist Church, Gastonia, NC in September, 1982. He has accomplished the following academically: -1960 graduate of York Road High School, Charlotte, NC -1977 graduate of Teamer School of Religion, Charlotte, NC with a B.Th. & B.D. degrees. -1989 Honorary D.D. from Teamer School of Religion. -1980-1982 further studies at Metrolina Seminary Extension, Charlotte, NC.
He has served as First and Second Vice Moderator of the Gaston County Missionary Baptist Association; the Praise and Worship Leader for the Training Institute and Facilitator for the Association. He is currently serving on the Constitution Committee, Dispute Committee and the Ordination Council for preachers. Pastor Sanders married Carnell Feaster on June 10, 1962 and to this union there are four children. They are Daryel (Mitzy) Sanders, Jelester A., Jr (Kay) Sanders, Vonda (Victor) Davis, and JoAndrea (Stephen) Costner. There are also seven grandchildren: JaLisa Sanders, Darnell Sanders, Jerricka Costner, Leyla Costner, Deirdre Davis, Jeffrey (Latt) Anthony, Rebecca Anthony. Three great-grandchildren: Ayianna Anthony, DaMaurion Massey and Nehemiah Bollin.
